Suriya and Jyotika’s ‘Retro’ Trailer Drops, Promises Love, Laughter, and Action
The official trailer for the highly anticipated movie ‘Retro‘ has been released. The film stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, along with Joju George, Jayaram, and Karunakaran. ‘Retro’ is directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Jyotika and Suriya under their banner 2D Entertainment.
The trailer launch event saw Suriya expressing his heartfelt gratitude to his fans and his wife, Jyotika. In a touching moment, Suriya affectionately referred to Jyotika as his ‘Kannadi Poo‘ (glass flower), a term of affection that is also a catchy phrase from one of the film’s songs featuring Pooja Hegde. He credited his wife and fans for his happiness and success, stating, “I’m here because of you all. I’m here because of your love and thanks to my ‘Kannadi Poo’ Jo, my journey wouldn’t be a happier one without her”. He also mentioned that ‘Retro’ has many layers, promising audiences a mix of love, laughter, and war.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the gripping narrative of ‘Retro’, showcasing Suriya in a powerful role as a gangster attempting to break free from a life of violence. The story centers on a love that endures against all odds, with Pooja Hegde playing Suriya’s on-screen wife. In the trailer, Suriya’s character reflects on how their separated lives have changed them, almost turning her into a Buddha and him into a demon. His performance in portraying the struggles of a gangster pulled back into violence is expected to be compelling.
‘Retro’ boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Jayaram, Karunakaran, Prakash Raj, Joju George, Swasika, Singampuli, and Nassar, with Shriya Saran making a special cameo appearance.
Behind the scenes, ‘Retro’ has a seasoned technical crew. Shreyaas Krishna is the director of photography, while Shafique Mohamed Ali handled the editing. The art direction is led by Jacki and Mayapandi, and the action sequences are choreographed by renowned stunt coordinator Kecha Khamphakdee. Notably, the trailer itself was cut with striking precision by Alphonse Puthren, known for directing cult hits like ‘Premam’ and ‘Neram’. The trailer hints at a complex narrative and even includes a subtle reference to one of director Karthik Subbaraj’s earlier films.
‘Retro’ is poised for a theatrical release on May 1st. This film marks the first collaboration between the popular actor Suriya and the inventive director Karthik Subbaraj, generating considerable excitement among Tamil cinema fans.
