Jumbo became the highest-grossing Southeast Asian animation of all time, surpassing Malaysia’s Mechamato Movie, which previously held the record. Jumbo overtook Moana 2 in terms of admissions in Indonesia, becoming the country’s second-highest-grossing animated title, achieving this milestone in two weeks compared to Moana 2‘s longer release.

The film follows Don, an orphaned boy bullied for his size, who wants to win a talent show with a play from his parents’ storybook. When a bully steals the book, Don meets Meri, a young ghost seeking help to reunite with her parents’ spirits, leading to an adventure.

Visinema Studios stated that Jumbo represents a milestone for Indonesia’s creative, film, and animation industries, reflecting the rising confidence and capability of the local animation scene. The dominance of horror titles, accounting for over half of annual releases, was a notable challenge in the Indonesian theatrical market, which Jumbo overcame by offering a warm, heartfelt, multi-generational story.

More than 420 Indonesian artists, animators, and storytellers reportedly worked on the creation of Jumbo over its five-year production period.
